PROJECT OVERVIEW
The 350XG Victory Gaming headset from ThinkWrite is an audiophile masterpiece. It is a dedicated gaming headset that delivers an elevated level of audio quality, and unparalleled comfort to gamers of all ages. The challenge was, they wanted the exterior design to feature real molten metal – not an easy combination for a high-end audio device with sensitive electronics!
We worked closely with ThinkWrite, starting with sketches that culminated in a fully engineered headset, but the most difficult part of this project was the molten metal plate. After taking and submitting several photographs of molten metal to the client, we had a winner. Using rendering software, we converted the molten metal look into a 3D design. Then came the real challenge- how do you actually make this?
We discovered a way to take a basic STL file and produce a tool from this file, which was out of the box thinking, to say the least. Once we mastered the tool production, ThinkWrite tasked us with remotely training their vendors on how to create the look of the product with repeatability, to ensure the molten metal on the outer case looked as good as the headphones performed.
This headset is more than just visually appealing though, it has a superior level of comfort over long periods of time, and it was extremely cost effective to produce!
