PROJECT OVERVIEW
With the rapid growth of EVs, and the inherent range anxiety brought on by an underdeveloped infrastructure, MarsCharge saw an opportunity to alleviate range concerns and capitalize on this growing segment with its MarsCharger Lite™, an advanced, battery-powered DC fast-charger that fits in your trunk and can charge a vehicle’s battery pack up to a half charge in less than 20 minutes.
When the principals at MarsCharge contacted us, they had already been let down by two industrial design companies. To say they were skeptical would be an understatement – but we aren’t the kind of industrial product design company to shy away from a challenge.
We discarded the failed designs and started with a fresh set of pixels, adding features, and creating a brand design that set the standard for their future products. Working with MarsCharge’s engineers, we added an intuitive touchscreen and an App-based controls system for user-defined control settings, additional ports for USB charging, the ability to convert to AC power with necessary outlet ports, simple recharging through a wall outlet, and daisy-chain expandability, allowing it to serve as a “jerry can of electrons,” a standalone power station, or both!
In fact, our inspiration for this concept came from a Jerry Can; the old school gas cans created for the military and still used by outdoor enthusiast to this day. The Jerry Can is functional and its looks are iconic, and its style resonated with our client. While the inside of this “can” features advanced technology and energy storage, its simple, rugged-yet-elegant design produces confidence of purpose nonverbally, right down to the triple handles on the top and an extending bar for easy maneuverability.
