It’s the rare industrial design company that cares about more than making a profit and satisfying their clients, but DesignStein Studios fits the bill. They are also motivated to give back to the community by doing things like fostering the growth of creative young minds. It’s those same minds that might one day choose to enter fields like robotics that are such integral parts of industrial design.
That’s the case with the Centers of Learning Robotics program, a prestigious high school in North Hills, CA. The high school robotics program traces its origin back to 2012, and those young people that participate in it are referred to as Team Torch. Team Torch is soon to be participating in a thrilling event: The FIRST Tech Challenge Robotics Program.
What’s the Purpose of the Program?
The FIRST Tech Challenge Robotics Program is sure to draw some of the best and brightest from not just California or the U.S., but the entire globe. Students from grades 7-12 the world over are going to be competing for top prizes and bragging rights, as they design, build, and program their unique, customized robots. They’ll have a 10-week period to try and perfect their creation, and they’d better bring their best efforts, because then they’ll face local and regional events with the goal of advancing and claiming a spot in the FIRST championships.
Robotics, Friendship, and Camaraderie
Robotics is the focus of this group of youngsters, but the competition is about so much more than that. This program is about building new friendships as much as it is about assembling robots. These kids are going to be exposed to ideologies and ideas that are sure to serve them well as they grow into young adults and decide what they want to do with their lives. It is entirely possible that some of them may work for an industrial design company like DesignStein Studios someday as a result of their experiences in this contest.
DesignStein is going to be helping these kids produce different components of their robot based on their original design. The elements will be created using a 3D printer, and the young participants are thrilled to be learning about the capabilities of this new technology.
The FIRST Tech Challenge Robotics Program and similar efforts are great opportunities for young people to compete, solve problems rapidly, and get enthusiastic about technology. It’s an initiative that DesignStein Studios is happy to get behind, and they’re thrilled to be partnering with these kids to help them make their vision a reality.
This is an example of an industrial design company being about more than profit. It’s these very kids that could be part of the next wave of creators whose ideas will impact the fields of industrial and product design in the years to come.
