Are you trying to get investors interested in your great idea?  Maybe you’re already pretty certain you have a winner, and unsure what product design services could have to offer.  If you’re a first-time inventor, you may not realize everything that’s involved in the journey from “great idea” to “great product.”  Here are a few things you should consider before you decide to go it alone:

  1. Do You Understand The Financials?

One great thing about Design Stein Studios is that we have experience in helping you get into the best position possible to acquire investor interest.  The fact is that launching a product can be incredibly expensive, and most people don’t have the ability to be careless about something that could easily eat up a huge portion of their savings.  If you use a quality product design services company, especially as a first-time inventor, you can benefit from their experience.

  1. Bad Design Can Slow You Down

We’re not just talking about aerodynamics; bad design can cause your product to take longer to reach the market.  Here are just a few of the things that have to be considered:

  • Are there any patents that have to be cleared on your product?
  • Have they been cleared? How much will that cost?
  • Does your product use standardized pieces (buckles, zippers, etc) or will specialty sizes have to be manufactured?
  • How much time do you have?  Will you need to keep up with a day job while trying to find manufacturing, shipping, and marketing for your product?
  • Do you want to license this product, or manufacture it yourself?  Do you know the difference?

Any of these can dramatically slow the process, which can cost you money.

  1. Are You Sure You Want To Do It Alone?

While it can seem like “real inventors” are solitary geniuses, actually running a product business is, like most business, much more about the support systems that smart people build around them.  As an inventor, you’re excellent at imagining new solutions to common problems. Therefore, it’s usually most effective for you to concentrate on finding those solutions, instead of splitting your attention and trying to do great design, too.  Especially if you intend to manufacture the product yourself, it’s important to keep your creativity high, since most businesses can’t be profitable while only selling one or two designs. Don’t let the demands of design, manufacturing, and shipping your first product steal the time you need to work on future products.

You’re not alone, and you shouldn’t feel like you are.  Great product design can help your vision reach more people, sell more units, and help you achieve your dream.
